Building Healthy Futures Internships

Building Healthy Futures, a nonprofit organization in Omaha, Nebraska, is seeking an intern interested in learning all aspects of the non-profit field. Building Healthy Futures’ mission is to improve health for our community’s underserved children and youth through thoughtful collaboration and advocacy. It is essential that applicants for this position possess excellent written and oral communication skills. The candidate should be able to show evidence of effective organizational skills and valuable leadership experience. Ideal candidates will have career goals in the areas of public policy, public health, health care or education.

 

Responsibilities

All duties and responsibilities will vary with the assigned project or program, and will be aligned to the individual strengths and skills of the intern.  Please note the following list of activities are for sample purposes, and Building Healthy Futures’ expectation is that interns are flexible and able to maximize all learning opportunities presented to them throughout their tenure. 

  • Work with Building Healthy Futures staff to support and develop programming to meet the organizational mission
  • Schedule and coordinate meetings with community partners to build stakeholder buy-in
  • Conduct literature review for best practice or national trends
  • Create and update databases for data collection
  • Maintain contact lists, and manage information gathering and distribution to support the mission of Building Healthy Futures
  • Record minutes or qualitative field notes during programming and/or community meetings
  • Perform light administrative work (computer work, phone calls, copies, errands, etc.)

 

Requirements

  • Interns are typically in an undergraduate or master’s degree program with majors in Public Health, Public Policy, Public Administration, Organizational Development, Health Care or Education, having a desire to work in the non-profit sector.   Other majors/programs will be considered.
  • Applicants must have strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Applicants must be able to work independently and possess leadership qualities.
  • Applicants must possess a high level of organization and attention to detail.
  • Applicants must have the ability to meet deadlines, maintain focus on issues, and solve problems as they arise.
  • Applicants must possess high interpersonal skills, must be an effective team player, must be perceived as a leader by others, and must be able to work independently.
