Building Healthy Futures is passionate about continuing education, and this month two of our staff members graduated from masters programs.

Our CEO, Jeanee Weiss, graduated from University of Nebraska at Omaha with her Executive MBA.

Our Director of School Based Health Center Programming, Renee Claborn, graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center with her Masters of Public Health.

Vision Screening Updates

This past fall semester, the Child Vision Collaborative (CVC) organized vision screenings at 13 Omaha Public Schools including: Bryan High, Bryan Middle, Central Park, Conestoga, Gateway, Indian Hill, Kellom, Kennedy, Lothrop, Skinner, Spring Lake, Wakonda, and the Teen Literacy Center. Our screening methods included a Plus Optix camera, stereopsis, and observations. Of the 6,622 students screened, a total of 2,792 students were referred for a full vision exam. Children’s Hospital & Medical Center’s Vision Mobile is expected to be completed and will begin seeing referred students in April 2018.

Nebraska Child Health and Education Summit

The 8th annual Nebraska Child Health and Education Summit was held on December 7 at Boys Town. The theme of the summit was “Preparing for Change.” The first keynote speaker was Scott Dziengelski, Director of Policy and Regulatory Affairs at the National Association of Psychiatric Health Systems. In his role, he develops and advocates NAPHS’ positions before federal agencies to positively affect federal regulations, statutes, and other governmental directives that affect behavioral health systems.
